Sources: Knicks, Fisher Agree to Deal

The New York Knicks and Derek Fisher have an agreement in place for Fisher to become the next Knicks head coach, sources are reporting.

The two sides are finalizing a five-year, $25 million deal according to Yahoo! Sports.

The Knicks and team president Phil Jackson were in full pursuit of Fisher, especially after Steve Kerr made the decision to accept the open Golden State Warriors’ position.  The team was unable to really speak to him until after the Oklahoma City Thunder finished their playoff run since Fisher was still playing with the team.    He is a trusted former player of Phil Jackson, and is respected by many of the current players around the NBA.  Many believe Jackson is very interested in still being very involved with the team, and by hiring a former player, it allows him to still coach without actually coaching.
