This week it was announced that guard Russell Westbrook had signed a 5-year extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. It is reported that the deal is worth around $80 million. Westbrook was to become a restricted free agent this offseason, and the Thunder would have had to match any outside offers presented to the All-Star guard. Smartly they signed him into a long-term contract 15 games into the season.
Though there has been talk since last season that there were issues between Westbrook and star forward Kevin Durant, the two have always maintained that they wanted to remain together. Both are known scorers, and its been interesting for Westbrook to go from the two guard to point, but I definitely believe the two are best together. They make one another better, and they take the pressure off of the other. If they remain smart about it, they can very well bring championships to OKC in the very near future.
