Skier Sarah Burke Dead at 29

Posted by on January 20, 2012

Freeskier Sarah Burke died Thursday after succumbing to injuries she sustained in an accident nine days ago in Park City, Utah.

A six-time Winter X Games champion, Burke was practicing for the upcoming Winter X Games.  The superpipe was the same one where fellow X Games champion snowboarder Kevin Pearce suffered a severe injury in December 2009.

A pioneer and innovator in her sport, Burke had successfully lobbied to have women’s superpipe included in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.  Sarah Burke was a shining example of what are sports role models are supposed to be.  She leaves behind a husband and a family who were very proud of all her accomplishments.
